Redefining Economics Education: EDU’s Focus on Mathematics and Business

East Delta University (EDU), located in Chittagong, is now offering a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Economics, which emphasizes mathematical training and a foundation of business courses. The BSc in Economics program is designed to be modern and practical, catering to the needs of contemporary economics and job opportunities in business and public policy.

EDU initially approved a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics program in 2016, which focused on the theoretical teaching of economics, including economic history and political economy. However, after six years of experience, EDU found that students were more interested in pursuing a degree in mathematical economics, leading to the introduction of the BSc in Economics degree.

The Vice-Chancellor of EDU, renowned economist Prof. Muhammad Sekandar Khan, stated that the current economy is analytical and complex, requiring a focus on mathematics and business education to ensure that students are up to date with the latest developments. To meet these needs, the BA in Economics program has been converted into a Mathematical and Practical Curriculum and tailored to the contemporary world’s demands.

According to EDU Founder Vice Chairman Sayeed Al Noman, the BSc degree is preferred by students because it is more mathematical and business-oriented than the BA degree. The BSc in Economics program includes both theoretical and analytical and mathematical subjects, providing students with a well-rounded education in economics.

The new BSc in Economics program at EDU offers students an opportunity to acquire a modern and practical degree that emphasizes mathematics and business education. With job opportunities in business and public policy, students will receive a well-rounded education that meets the demands of the contemporary world.

EDU’s focus on modern and practical education is a step towards ensuring that students are up to date with the latest developments in the economy and the demands of the contemporary world.
