Debating Competition at East Delta University: Battle of the Minds

East Delta University Debating Society hosted GSC Global Solution – EDUDS 2nd National Debate Championship – 2023 (Inter University Segment) on 17th-18th March with the teams from top 28 universities including University of Dhaka, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh University of Professionals, Chattogram Medical College, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, University of Chittagong, Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, International Islamic University Chittagong , Premier University, Port City, East Delta University, and so on.

The competition, which featured some of the brightest minds from universities across the country fiercely contested, with each team presenting well-researched arguments, counter arguments and rebuttals. The topic of the final debate was “এই সংসদ (বাংলাদেশ) কর স্বর্গ (ট্যাক্স হেভেন) হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করবে।” Each team was given equal time to present their arguments and respond to questions from the judges.

The judges for the competition were a panel of experts from different debating clubs,Bangladesh Debate Federation (BDF) and Drishty Chattogram. Professor Muhammad Sekandar Khan, Vice Chancellor, East Delta University conducted the Prize Giving and Closing Ceremony as the Session Chair along with the Chief Guest – Mr. M A Malek, Editor, Dainik Ajadi, Special Guests – Dr. Adnan Mannan, Professor, Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Chittagong, Masud Bakul, Founder, Drishty Chattogram, Shaibal Das Sumon, Councillor, Ward no – 21, Jamalkhan & Saif Chowdhury, Chief Advisor,Bangladesh Debate Federation, Club Advisor – Sayeda Suaiba Anwar, Lecturer, SoSET, EDU, Club co- advisor – Parna Mutsuddy, Lecturer, SoSET, EDU, Club Convenor Avishek Paul and other club members.

While concluding the session,the judges praised the topic chosen for debate and quality of the arguments presented. The judges also mentioned that they were impressed by the level of preparation and research that each team had put into their presentations.

Finally, the team from Premier University emerged as the champion of the competition, while the team from Bangladesh University of Textiles (BuTEX) secured second place. The winning team was awarded the Champions Trophy, Crest and Certificates.

The organizers of the competition expressed their gratitude to all the participating universities, and congratulated the winning team on their victory. They also thanked the judges for their time and expertise, and acknowledged the efforts of the volunteers and staff who helped making the event a success.

The title sponsor GSC Global Solutions put up great effort and support for the event.

Overall, the debate competition was a great success, and served as a testament to the intellectual curiosity and academic excellence of the students from the participating universities.

The Inter School Competition and Inter College Competition of this National Debate Championship will be held on 31st March – 1st April. 24 schools and 16 colleges will participate in the competitions.

East Delta University looks forward to hosting similar events in the future, and hopes to continue to foster a culture of academic excellence and intellectual curiosity among the students.

EDU organized the Access Academy Graduation Ceremony on the 16th March, at EDU Campus. The institution put all of its effort into making sure that the 500 students who enrolled and attended this event had a wonderful experience!

After a long interval of three years due to the Corona epidemic, the university finally organized this event, and the planning committee included enthusiastic representatives from Access Academy, SOSET, SOB, and SOLASS, as well as the admin offices.

The inaugural ceremony was glorified by the distinguished Chief Guest Mr. M A Malek, Editor, Dainik Ajadi while Professor Sekandar Khan, the honorable Vice Chancellor was in the chair

The occasion included certificate-awarding to all the recent graduates for the academic years 2020 and 2021, followed by pompous cultural performances.

The fabulous event came to an end with the session of fireworks that burst into dazzling colors, illuminating the university with the fiery glow of joy and success. Graduates were overwhelmed with joy and swimming in a sea of emotions at the end of this luminous event!
