EDU Family Welcomes Bengali New Year with Cultural Festivities

On Thursday, April 14th, 2022, East Delta University joined the nation in celebrating Pohela Boishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year. To welcome the new year, the campus was adorned with colorful Alpana and origami decorations, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the day.

The celebration began with the Mangal Sobhayatra at 11am, followed by various cultural programs, discussions, and a Boishakhi Fair on campus. Faculty and students participated in different activities simultaneously, including singing, dancing, and reciting.

Founder Vice Chairman, Sayeed Al Noman, emphasized the cultural heritage of the Bengali New Year. He highlighted that, in this age of globalization, it is crucial to hold onto traditions to preserve the ethnic identity of Bengalis.

The event was chaired by the University Registrar, Sajal Kanti Bara, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Md. Sekandar Khan, who drew attention to the history of the Bengali calendar. He explained that Mughal Emperor Akbar introduced the Bangabd, and the New Year in Bengal signifies the start of new crops. Therefore, the Bengali New Year is a festival of starting something new and bringing newness to life.

The celebration was attended by Associate Deans of various schools, including the School of Engineering, School of Business, and School of Liberal Arts, along with Proctor Asaduzzaman, faculty members, officials, and employees.

Overall, the festivities brought together the EDU family to celebrate the arrival of the Bengali New Year and to promote the preservation of cultural heritage.
