East Delta University organizes World Blood Donor Day

EDU Blood Donar Day

World Blood Donor Day has been celebrated around the globe since 2004 to encourage people to donate blood voluntarily. A day-long voluntary blood donation program, blood group determination, quiz competition, and discussion meeting was held at East Delta University (EDU) on the 14th of June, 2022.

The program was organized by the EDU Social Service Club in collaboration with the blood donor organization, Kanika.

EDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Sekandar Khan was the chief guest at the discussion on World Blood Donor Day. He said that when someone needs blood, it is then, when we understand what sacrifice blood donation actually is.

Professor Dr. Shahed Ahmed Chowdhury from Chittagong Medical College Hematology Department was present as the keynote speaker. He said that the number of blood donors is very small compared to the population in our country. If 6 to 7 lakh people donate blood at least twice a year, the shortage of blood in the country will be met.

EDU Treasurer Professor Shams-Ud Doha, Registrar Sajal Kanti Bara-ya, Kanika President Kofil Ahmed, and other teachers and students of EDU were also present in the program organized under the overall supervision of Tanya Khadem, the advisor of the club and lecturer of the School of Engineering.

Regular blood donation is a good practice. Donating blood does not cause any harm to the body but also provides several benefits. Regular blood donation keeps the body healthy.

However, the fear of donating blood works in many people. Such meetings and seminars and blood donation campaigns play an important role in removing this fear. Seeing someone give blood also calms the fear of others.

Positive group blood is available, but negative group blood is rare. Therefore, if the blood carriers of this group donate blood regularly, it is possible to save their lives and many others.

Since blood is an important component of the human body, naturally, the red cells of our body change every four months, so donating blood three times a year does not harm the body.

Rather, the life activity of the red cells of the body increases.

At the end of the discussion, crests were awarded to the winners of the quiz competition, and mementos were handed over to the blood donors.

We believe every organization should arrange campaigns for people who require blood. It will save many lives and will also motivate others to come forward and take part in this noble deed.
